Matt Huynh is currently creating an entirely new and original body of work every season over the course of one year – a series of series. He has announced that the Asperatus Prints will be released late October with pre-orders now available.
“My excitement for this project been continually reinvigorated as this project progressively reinforces a commitment to an ethic that encourages of me an acute awareness, reflection and articulation of the influence of the moment.
I marked the first day of Winter with the exhibition of a illustration series called ‘Asperatus’. The title roughly translates from Latin for ‘agitated’ or ‘rough’ and refers to the name of a newly discovered cloud formation which appear as ominous, rippling clouds, but which often disappear without delivering on any threat of storm – a confusing omen. The series consisted of black and white illustrations occupied with the chaotic and confusing present, when our actions have become increasingly abstracted from their consequences.”

About The Artist
Matt Huynh is a comic creator and illustrator based in Sydney, Australia.
Huynh began self-publishing to put more of the kind of comics that he wanted to read and see on the shelves. His diversity of genres and processes, from surrealist fantasy to polemical essays, community collaborations and biography, have garnered accolades from a broad audience, including Berlin’s Young Illustrator’s Award. He was recently shortlisted for the 2010 Spirit of Youth Awards for Visual Arts. The 2009 Creative Sydney Festival named him one of the most innovative contributors to Sydney’s culture and he was awarded the inaugural Design NSW Travelling Scholarship to pursue a worldwide professional development trip to train and work in residence under his greatest influences and inspirations.
Huynh strives to enthuse Australian comics identity by showcasing work across unexpected contexts, from a storefront display for Incu Clothing’s fashion boutique to a pop-up art festival at Cabra-Vale Leisure Centre and an exhibition in a Newtown boxing gym. Beyond comics, Huynh has explored new media and public art with the Popperbox artists’ collective. Huynh is currently developing a graphic novel and continues to practice as an illustrator.
